A Disease Called Procrastination

I’ve been told many times that my mental maturity exceeds my years, however, since nature has a tendency towards equilibrium, it counterballances things with my emotional maturity. Even on-line quizzes tell me that I act like a 16-year-old (FYI I’m 22). Not a particularly encouraging affirmation, but I tend to - metaphorically - sweep unpleasant things under the carpet, anyway.
My mother has decided that the former is a crime, so we’re paying a visit to our family doctor (one that I have managed to avoid for the last 4 or 5 years - too bad I’m not so lucky with my dentist). Aside from my pressing weight problem, we (i.e. mom) have decided to delight the poor lady with ALL my problems, bearing in mind that we’re about to impose the joy of our visit upon her.
One of these pressing problems seems to be my tendency to procrastinate things until the last minute. I’m in no way saying that it’s healthy or even practical, but I’m told 99% of my classmates (or even any person my age) do the exact same thing. I’m pretty sure that they don’t have appointments with their shrinks, for this.
To be truthful, I tend to get hysterical right before exams, and affirm things like “I’m quitting university” or “I’ll become a street cleaner“, which generally freak mom out. Of course, I firmly maintain that these are just drama queen manifestations, which I’ve forgotten to make use of, during high school.

Thank God my mom stopped coming to the doctor with me about three years ago. She also likes to do that kind of thing.
everyone procrastinates… I’m 23, in grad school, and I have two jobs. What am I doing right now? PROCRASTINATING! And everyone does the drama queen thing too. I wasn’t able to effectively utilize it during my high school or undergrad years but it works pretty well on getting my boyfriend to rub my feet when I’m in deep doo doo. I go through phases though, I’ll do everything really early then relax… too much. Rawr. I hope that the appt goes quick though, because that’s really just more procrastination, if you think on it.
Thanks for the comment. I procrastinate alot also. lol. Oh, about the Science thing…I didn’t have enough time to write all of the questions down, and the ones that I missed happened to be four point questions. I made it up with a few A+’s though.
Ahh I think everyone is procrastinating. Even that doctor of yours. Even I am procrastinating - witch just add to the always guilty conscience that comes with having children.
I just though I would mention that the link to your host don’t work. I spot a typo there.
testing the gravatar option.
Yay! It works!
I’m sure your mom is only trying to look out for you, but going to see the doctor because of procrastination? Who doesn’t suffer from procrastination once in awhile, especially university students?
I thought procrastination was a requirement to be a student?
I can empathise with the emotional maturity thing. When I hit 16 my emotional maturity sort-of stuck.. now I cry like a baby at silly things, get myself worked up over stuff that I should just ignore and act like a big kid most of the time. Oh well, we all have our flaws..
Oh I like that “procrastination is a requirement to be a student”. I wonder if I could make a poster with that and put it up somewhere around my desk
Huh? It is really common to procrastinate, so I am seriously wondering why were you made to see a doctor for that. o_O
Everyone procrastinates. It’s just human! Of course, too much procrastinating is not good. But sometimes there is also a kind of procrastination called ’smart procrastination’, deferring the less important things for later. Everything in moderation, I’d say.
Procrastination = life.
I am serius, I get nothing done. It is really bad.
Everyone procrastinates. I don’t see why your mother would send you to a doctor for that. Honestly, you are an adult, and she shouldn’t really pester you into it. She has the right to know about what’s going on in your life, but she doesn’t have authority and control over it.
