It’s Called Luck

Some people, like dad, are extremely lucky. I mean, what kind of person manages to win 100 liters of wine (very good quality at that) TWICE in a row? Apparently dad does, and apparently this gives him reason to buy a small Christmas tree *sulks*. See below:

The barrel is from last Christmas, since we hadn’t found enough bottles for storing and thus being able to open this year’s barrel. Apparently, once opened, the wine must be put into tightly closed bottles for it not to ferment. Keeping in mind that, this year Santa has finally brought us a digital camera, I’m expecting more ‘wine-conquering’ pictures like below:

Me, on the other hand, somehow only manage to muddle up even the simplest tasks. At the beginning of December I finally found some determination (lying around unused) and got my ears pierced1. Having been given two pairs of earrings at Christmas, I couldn’t wait another week and had to try them on. In the end I only tried the following pair on:

… since they looked less threatening. Not only did I manage to bloody both my ears in the process, but I also needed an entire hour to put the medical earrings back on. I also managed to waste 1/2 bottle of hydrogen peroxide, in the process (at least that’s cheap). Granted, 3/4 of said hour was spent glaring at my reflection as a means of braving the pain (it damn well hurt, but I can’t have the holes close up).
The second pair of earrings, while quite interesting looking, seems much too lethal in my current position. Still, I’ve made a snapshot so you can see what I’ll be voluntarily torturing myself with (as put by mom):

It’s your job to assure me that this is normal, and that I’m not suffering of some form of masochism.
Site Update: new article for those interested in creating a WPR site - Taking Up Reviewing. Tell me what you think, should you be patient enough to go through all of it. Speaking of which, I WILL get through my YS.nu ‘clients’ this holiday… or at the very least I’ll try, as I’ll be going into finals-induced isolation till the start of February.

1 Meaning that I went to a jewelry store which also did ear piercing (using a gun-like ’stapler’).

Although I’ve yet to try a pair of earrings like the 2nd one, I have seen many a person wearing a pair of them. I myself have my ears pierced multiple times, trust me, the pain when you change your earrings will go away soon.
Maybe you should have a pro doing your ears next time? Of course that would spoil the fun of making your head bleed and the pain would be too quick - anti climax! I really love both set of earrings - I would love to try the second set with this dress I have. Pretty.
@Nan: well I don’t know about ‘pro’, but I’m not the one who pierced my ears… I should’ve written “had my ears pierced”. It was in a jewelry store, where the sales girl put the earrings on with a gun-like thingy.
I instantly fell in love with the second pair. That’s why I bought them (well officially grandpa bought them -
him and earrings… )
Oh I thought you pierced yourself - my mistake!
Chanceless.net will not stay. I am fed up with the hosting company since they refuse to work with me in any way I had to make a decision to either take or leave it as it were and I came to the conclusion that host troubles can’t be prioritized… Wow that is actually a real word! To begin with a choose that host so I would be able to get support in Danish - now I know - the hard way - that they had no support to give in any language
I’m so sorry to hear that. Let’s hope that your current host is more reliable.
As a matter of fact, I realized that saying “I pierced my ears” could be misinterpreted, but since I posted the entry around 1 am, I was too tired to try and fix it. It’s changed now
Either way, the girl doing the piercing didn’t seem like any kind of expert
Eeeek : ( I got my ears pierced when I was about eleven years old, well after all of my friends : P They (the people where I had them pierced) said to wait six weeks or whatever for the ears to heal properly, turning the surgical-posted earrings I was wearing, cleaning them with alcohol or other disinfectant… and I did that for MONTHS without them ever healing. Finally I changed my earrings anyway, because I wanted to, and they got swollen and infected : / *sigh* I put my surgical posts back in and wore those for a long time again, turning, disinfecting.
For years it was like that. Finally I took the posts out and left them out, and now my ears have healed shut. That was when I was around 19, so they didn’t heal over the course of at least 8 years. I’m surprised I still have a head, much less ears!
I’ve seen a lot of people wear earrings like the second pair you showed, but I never braved any (obviously? dragging the chain through the open wound would’ve been torture). I always thought they were cool, and definitely like those.
I hope you have FAR better luck with your ears than I did ; P If you do, wear the hell out of those earrings for me!
I sure hope too. Though I’m of the belief that if I am determined enough they wouldn’t DARE not to heal properly *insert evil cackle*
My dad’s sister had the same problem you did. She even pierced them twice, hoping to ‘fix’ that, but no luck. My mom’s sister pierced her ears when she was around 30 and she doesn’t seem to have any problems. Hope it will be fine for me as well. As for my ears they didn’t swell or anything. They’re still their tiny selves.
nice earrings you got there, i thought getting ears pierced would hurt but when I had it done it was just a prick.
happy new year!
The piercing part didn’t hurt (well a small pricking sensation)… it was the earring changing that didn’t agree with me.
Happy New Year to you too.
I’m so proud of you! I wouldn’t put the second pair in for a while. My ear piercing place told me to wait 6 months until I wore something other than post back earrings. They must have said that for a reason.
CONGRATS!
6 months *wails* Hm… well, I suppose that sounds reasonable. I mean… I CAN live with that
Heh, thanks. I kept thinking about your blog you know where you scared the girl doing it. I didn’t she just laughed at me, claiming that “everyone does it”… so it can’t hurt.
ARG you should NEVER NEVER NEVER use a gun on piercings, thats terrible! It gives you a ring of skin thats been dislodged around the piercing, that might be why you had so much trouble with the earings. those spirally ones look cool! I’ve been banned from changing my earings by my friend, it took me ages to get ball closure rings in my ears so i can’t change them!
LOL, thats a lot of wine.
Nice earrings~ ;3 I would peirce my ears but I’m scared. x-X; I got a peircing when I was just a baby, but since I never wore earrings, the hole “filled” and the hole is gone now. x__x
@Han: well it hurts less, or so I’m told.
The alternative was to go to some creepy piercing salon, where the first thing you see is a picture of a guy screaming while having a tattoo applied to him. This seemed less threatening. Aside this, lots of people get their ears pierced this way, so I figured I couldn’t be that different.
Yea. I had mine pierced and…yea, didn’t trun out well for me, but I should have taken better care. Neways, It didn’t actually hurt till I had to rotadte them *ouch* But glad your experience was beter than mine.
Much Love,
Lyn
Fantastic article on taking up reviewing, Vera
Oh, and lovely earrings, too. Happy New Year!
I’ve never found ear piercings particularly difficult. I got my first ones when I was a year old (thats probably why, I dont even remember hehe) and around a year ago I got my second. I removed the original pair after two weeks and there was no harm done. Hurt like hell at times, but it was mostly cool
I’ve never seen earrings like the second pair but they look interesting. I certainly want to try them out, hehe
And 100 liters of wine! Whoa, that is a lot. Hehe
@Rhiannon: Thanks. I’m glad you like it. Happy New Year to you too!
@Sanjana: Lucky you. I always wished I had them pierced before (although that would prevent me from blogging about it
), however mom claims she felt so sorry for me. Technically she still considers ear piercing barbaric… but at least she doesn’t voice her opinion 24/7
Those earrings are ever so pretty, but I’d be worried about trying to get them into a relatively new piercing. I think I had to wait six weeks or something before I could take mine out for the first time o.O
I envy your massive wine stores. That’s just not fair. You should send me a barrel of the stuff, lol
Happy new year ♥ x
