Rebelling 101

Yesterday, yet again unhappy with my furious typing speed1, my dad turned my chair (it’s the kind with wheels) from the computer to the TV. A local TV channel was discussing music piracy (i.e. illegal download of music files).
Here is an excerpt, of the discussion:
Spokesperson: We will be discussing the moral issue of this topic, with Mr X, who is a theologian.
Theologian: This is basically theft.
Spokesperson: Why do you think people steal music?
Theologian: It’s a way of rebelling against the rules, they know they are breaking.
It’s the IT thing, for rebel teenagers: protest by downloading the latest Linkin Park single. Can you imagine your parents’ faces? They’ll IMMEDIATELY succumb to you… or maybe not.
…and the grand finale:
Theologian: In the end we will answer to God, for all our sins
Spokesperson: mp3-s included?
Theologian (omnoiusly): Oh, yes!
So kids, check your pockets for stray mp3-s, you never know who’ll find them

1 I can’t help it, IM -ing fills my fingers with lots of adrenaline… or whatever else they’re supposed to be filled with.

I type super fast too. When my thumb was broken this summer, I got really good at typing with just my left hand. At work they were all like, “Woah, Kim types faster with her left hand than what I can do with both hands.” I just need to type as fast as I think. If I don’t, then my thoughts get all jumbled up.
Oh no. Illegal MP3s. Could it be people steal them because they are easy to steal and society doesn’t frown down upon it as much as say, eating fresh newborns? That’s because stealing MP3s isn’t as bad as eating fresh newborns.
That was my opinion as well… but apparently religious representatives believe it’s simply our way of rebelling :buckteeth:
Way of rebelling huh? I think it’s hard to define what rebelling is these days, since so many things are accepted now that wouldn’t be accepted “back in the days of our parents”. Oh Lord I wonder how my kids are going to rebel against me.
Of course trends change (so why not ways of rebelling as well). Still, can you image a kid downloading his favorite music file thinking “now I’m REALLY going to piss off mum  “, instead of “yay! I finally get to listen to it all day :yay:”? Personally, I doubt it.
LOL! So true!
I’m on the other end of the scale. My dad is the one doing all the fun music piracy stuff, and I’ve long since given up trying to discourage it. I did, however, buy a CD the other day, for what it’s worth. Boy, was Dad unhappy. “I’ve already got that for you!”
