…’cause you’re smart

Nikita of Romania I bet most of you have seen or, at the very least, heard of “La Femme Nikita TV series” (starring Peta Wilson). Of course, the TV series had an enormous success here in Romania as well, so much that some mistreated poor girl from Bucharest decided to take on the lead character’s name. Incidentally that’s her in the picture1 - yes she’s 100% a woman, not a transvestite.

Now she’s rather rash and you can clearly see from her way of speech, that she hasn’t had any education, however she’s got spunk and she’s got courage; as such she has also managed to have a career in music and, more recently, acting. Still, one has to admire that she’s got the courage to go on talk shows and showcase herself2.

During one of my late night wanderings, I spotted mom following a talk show where the above mentioned lady had been invited3, to promote her latest single. The discussion, in the end, started centering around singing in clubs.

The host, wanting to find out the conditions necessary to have such a job, asks Nikita:

Host: What if I wanted to go and sing in clubs?
Nikita: You can’t, you’re much too well known.
Host: Oh, I’d grow a mustache and maybe put on a cool hat…
Nikita: It won’t work, I’m telling you.
Host (impaciently): Well if you were in my place, what would you do?
Nikita: I can’t put myself in your place, given the fact that you’re smart.

That remark left both mom and I gaping, followed by hysterical laughter. :lol: I even wrote it down, to show it to dad in the morning.

2 As of late she’s really fat, yet keeps wearing very revealing clothing.
3 More like, she invited herself, and the host couldn’t refuse.

Warning: Crappyness Ahead

Considering the number of website reviews I received you’d think I’d seen it all, when it comes to terms/rules/guidelines, however it appears that I can still be amazed. I’m not going to point fingers, as I believe that bad publicity is petty. Technically I don’t really speak badly of the site, I’m just somewhat perplexed by a certain aspect of said site. That said, please don’t start attacking the site in question, should you find out which it is. If I won’t get reviewed because of this… oh well, I’ve endured worse things.

One of this WPR site’s requirement states that the reviewee should state bad graphic design skills in advance. Does that mean that those whose skills are bad aren’t allowed to get constructive criticism? Or maybe it’s a warning of possible reasons of criticism? Or maybe the reviewer has low tolerance for lack of good graphic design skills? Me, being the honest webmistress that I am, clearly stated that my graphic design skills are nonexistent, however I still wished ‘normal’ evaluation for it.

I recently read a review on Captious Pedants (by Veve) where she criticizes a webmistress on confusing webdesign with art. It really made me think on how much of a role does visual appeal play in web design. I always thought that web design can be a type of art, however one CAN have a well designed layout without it being artistic (Susie of Vision is a good example). Nevertheless Veve’s portfolio, Signed by V, is also well designed, and visually speaking more artistic. So which is it?

That being said, are reviewers going to demand a personal evaluation before they start a review? Isn’t evaluation the reason for getting reviewed?

The Art of “Googling”

I still haven’t managed to fix the Internet Explorer issues, but they should be bearable now… at least the comments don’t run off when I hover over them Fixed! Now if I could just stop the textarea from suddenly expanding :hmm:

Thanks to following Jem’s tutorial on basic meta tags, Google’s been generating a decent number of hits. Now don’t get all excited: by decent I mean about 2-3 per day. Still, I’m not exactly sure if it’s a good thing or not, as people tend to come here with some very weird obsessions.

Most people tend to be curious about how soon they can ‘abuse’ newly pierced ears;
Others keep wondering how exactly to apply alcohol to their ears (pierced ears);
And more recently someone’s earring hurts :shock:

Still, to appease my unreasonably inflated ego, some actually seek me out for web design related issues, such as:

Ladybug layouts
As well as life complicating issues such as floating a div tag using javascript with scrolling up and down (because we really and truly want to have a div tag follow our every move…)

Still the most scandalous of all: funny facts on sleeping during school. I’ll have you know that I DO NOT sleep during school! :fist: I mean, all that effort to merely zone out, as opposed to blatantly whipping out a pillow and indulge, should be mightily appreciated. Though… when have I ever talked about sleeping at school… :?
