A Question of Status
Since I started working (even if only part-time) I find I feel completely different. Yet it’s not as if I have miraculously become a mature young woman in her early twenties. As a matter of fact I still download anime like no tomorrow, I still enjoy e-drama, I still post at childish forums (and no I don’t mean Snark), I still…
Despite all this, I can’t help but feel wholly different. Now I am able to turn down appointments claiming I need to work. I don’t mean that I’m using work as an excuse (although I could probably get leave) to get out of certain obligations. It’s the fact that I’m able to actually say “I’m afraid I will not be able to make it as I have to work”. OK, so I’m generally not that eloquent in Romanian, but you get the general idea.
It’s question of status. I am now aware that I AM truly able to do work that people actually have a need for. I CAN actually do something useful. Hence the reason I changed my status text on forums from “artificially annoying” to “(un)reasonably smug“. Oh yes, I know I’m grating on your nerves, but I am still going to dance around singing “I’m working I’m working I’m working…”.
This of course proves that I am in fact quite childish, with no foreseeable maturing in sight… BUT I AM WORKING! For real… :yay:
As a side note, I will refrain from doing any significant updates to the site until after I finished my licentiate’s exam. Work + preparing for exams = no inspiration.

I completely understand what you’re saying, I sort of felt the same way when I started officially driving on my own through two of the worst possible highways in my area. We all need to feel a little more mature when we finally get to do certain things– it’s par tof growing up.
Driving. Done.
Working. Getting there.

Not only is it a great excuse, it’s a great excuse that puts money in your pocket, right?

Ugh. I’ve been working for years now. Trust me, the feeling goes away faster than what you would like. Enjoy it now.

I’m still at that stage of my life where I point and laugh at all people who work and actually spend their time trying to earn money and doing something significant.
But, I’m happy for you. Even though I’m laughing at you.

Thanks… I think
I’ve always admired people who worked, mostly because of their resilience. I know that with school some days I just didn’t feel like doing anything, and sometimes I could also afford it. But with work, you can’t just not go because you don’t feel like it. So now I’m hoping to get a little will power.

But I thought we’re supposed to hate our jobs!! Haha, oh Snark is perhaps the best forum I ever joined. But I don’t post there anymore. Or at any forums. I can’t stand the amount of crap some of them pump out!!!! :p

Apparently it’s better if you like it. Besides, I never said that I don’t start looking at the clock every 5 minutes come 5 (I need to work till 6)
I believe Snark has been created for that purpose: a forum to beat all.

I’ll be getting a job soon. I’m in it just for the money.
