I Don’t Friggin’ CARE!!!!11!!one!!!1
...on Sun, April 6, 2008 at 6:32 pmFiled under: Internet, Rants
… no, I really don’t. As such, I am going to devote a mile-long entry (liberally peppered with RANDOM capitalizations) to prove my point. Smart, eh?
For some reason, this seems to be the height of coolness, especially among insulted webmasters. Got a review/criticism that you didn’t like? Devote at least one paragraph explaining that you don’t actually care. If that doesn’t teach those lifeless idiots1, nothing will.
I’m not sure what your reaction is when you don’t care about something: I - for one - either shrug, or give a monosyllabic answer. Not so much our insulted webmasters/webmistresses, who will generally devote at least one mean comment about the criticizer’s presumed shortcomings2, if not an entire blog entry.
If we all subscribed to this supposedly healthy approach to the Interwebz, we’d be all pretty apathetic, you know. Just blogging out of obligation, constantly apologizing for lack of updates… oh wait: that’s EXACTLY what you do.
Just think, every time you update your site, be it a new layout, tutorial, blog post, or even profess your love for cute dinosaur patterns3 you do it because you think it will add to your blog’s likability. Unless of course you get some sort of kick from making your site uglier and uglier. So, I’m afraid you’ll have to accept the harsh truth:
YOU. LIKE. YOUR. SITE.
I know, I know: it’s terrible. How will you ever survive such a shameful admission… provided you DO actually admit to it, of course? There’s of course the “sensible” thing: immediately distance yourself from the computer (YES, RIGHT NOW!). Or… you could just embrace this trait of your personality and fix your site. Dilemmas, dilemmas, dilemmas…
Now if you’ll excuse I’m off to change layout, because my extreme uncaring attitude towards Perfection Design Gallery has been bugging me… for the last half of a year. Like I said: totally not caring about it.
What don’t YOU care about?
___________
1 because obviously whenever you vocalize your dislike of a website you’re in dire need of outside activity. ![]()
2 i.e. big fat lazy bitch.

“meh”
Vera: well said
Erm….are you okay, Vera?
Vera: oh you CARE? *squishes*
Lol, it’s true!! I also dislike when people say, “I HATE [insert stupid thing to hate, here]!!!” Seriously, it is not worth your time to hate the way someone… eats their fries (as I overheard at McDonald’s the other day), nor is it worth your FRIENDS’ time to have to listen to you rant about it!!
Vera: but, but then WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO BLOG ABOUT? Although I don’t hate these people… just find them ridiculous.
Yes, I do wonder sometimes why someone has this rant prepared in order to combat any criticisms, etcetera, and yet the point of said rant it that they don’t care. If you’re going to say something about something, it’s generally assumed that you have an opinion, and that you don’t not care about it.
Contrary to what Aisling said, when I hate something, it’s still considered an opinion and therefore I do care for the effect it has on me. If I hate a teacher, I will vocalize my thoughts because I don’t like that she’s mean, condescending, etc. (a.k.a. my History teacher) and I’d rather she wasn’t. If I didn’t care about her, I wouldn’t say anything, except perhaps a “whatever.” But that’s just because I like to talk. Holy run-on sentences.
Vera: eh… I do that too… sometimes (run on sentences)
Huh? Me loves u <3
Vera: ILU2
I don’t care about anything. That’s why, in order to be cool, you must add the words, “…not that I care/it matters to me in any way…”
And then narrow your eyes. It’s better if you narrow your eyes while wearing sunglasses.
Vera: oooh, I see. *makes notes*
Whatever
I think too many people say “I don’t care” about things they obviously do care about. The fact that they even mention it shows they care, in some way or another. So, you’re absolutely right!
Vera: I love the sound of “absolutely right”. Keep saying that.
What? I’m scandalised! No-one likes their own site! The only reason why anyone would ever run a website is to gain e-fame and approval from other people. Duh, sheesh.
Vera: I see. So that’s what they ‘cleverly’ disguise with “my site is only for MEEEEE”
Vera: well… I was slightly confused when I wrote this entry, as well. So it might not be entirely your fault
I care about me, my things and a little about those around me
Everyone must have a little of self love, except you know, those who are about to commit suicide
So I don’t believe that “I don’t care” crap when it comes to one’s likability being in play…
Vera: I find that a very healthy mindset
, no need to be ashamed of it.
I read this whole entry thinking I was on Kaylee’s site…
Way to make myself sound smart.
I agree about the overuse of “I don’t care!!1!”.
I care about myself too. And Eric, and Beatrice (that’s the furry one).
But not about my site, duh. That stupid piece of crap.
Vera: On Kaylee’s site?
That’s a first. But then, new things make life less boring
There’s an element of passion when someone dislikes something, however adopting a ‘I don’t care’ attitude seems odd when it’s followed by numerous comments and entries. Usually when I say I don’t care, I really don’t. Anyway, I got very little sleep last night and your entry confused my fatigue-ridden brain
Vera: idon’tcare!!!! *goes to wallow in self pity*
This makes perfect sense, Vera. Next time someone criticizes my site I am just going to say: “I care!!1!” with a link to this post, and I’m being totally serious. Because everyone should be aware that they…um…care…I didn’t mean for that to rhyme. >.>
Oh yah and I find the “I’m so sorry its been AAAAGES since I blogged” sentences to be incredibly annoying. I once read a big list of like top 20 things bloggers do wrong and that was number 8 or something. Don’t apologize constantly…act like you MEANT to keep people waiting.
Vera: Gotta love links
. As for the waiting, it’s all part of my master plan to rule the Interwebz by means of my blog
I thought I was on Kaylee’s site because your sites are side by side in my live bookmarks.
Webmasters go wrong when they devote long paragraphs to not caring. They should keep it within three sentences: I don’t care. I’m only mentioning the issue because I don’t want to talk about it: I want my visitors to stop pestering me and worrying, because I’m not bothered.
‘I don’t care’ is a fair response to drama-mongers. It’s hard to create needless drama when the other party won’t engage.
BUT, you seem to be talking about people who actually care, yet say they don’t. Those people, well… that’s just silly.
Vera: actually online, it’s even easier to ignore things than offline. You can just, not respond. That’s the best way to clearly spell I don’t care. But yes, those are not the people I’m referring to, here.
If you really dislike something, you can save time and everyone’s eyes/ears by not having a big, long whinge about it.
Vera: well… one could claim, that said person hates us as well, so the ‘torture’ is intentional
You got it right I do like my site.
But I’m liking it less and less these days because it doesn’t always let me access it when I want. -_- It’s being biased against its owner or something. I swear there hasn’t been any domestic violence or slavery.
Have you received hatemails? They’re cool. But usually I do reply with “what?” I don’t tend to care so much about what noobs say about my web design because I know I’m better.
I think the only sort of criticism that really hurts me and instigates crazy response is (negative, obviously) comments about my appearance.
Vera: I received hatemail from only one person, heh I’m not mean enough.
lol. I don’t know much of anything when it comes to sites…but I loved Shannon’s answer…
uhm..I don’t care about internet drama
Vera: yes and no… it was just something that occurred to me. Also, this entry is meant to be humorous so don’t get so scared
Your review at freewebs.com/timebombreviews has been completed. Please let us know when you’ve read the review.
Vera: yes I read it… my answer is here
“YOU. LIKE. YOUR. SITE”
So very true.
I don’t dedicate endless hours on that only to end up hating it.
But I love your site too. -Squishes-
Vera: *hugs back*
First off, to sign the guestbook. You hit Guestbook, then you hit ‘Dear Timebomb’ and write your comment. You think you are so high above us, yet you can’t figure out how to leave a comment on a piczo site? Ha!
Second, noone asked you to submit for a review, if you can’t handle what people have to say about your site then don’t submit them, simple enough. Why don’t you practice what you preach and follow your own ‘tutorial’ huh?
And lastly, noone asked you to say anything about my site, I do not care what you have to say, obviously or I would be “Review my site please?” but since I haven’t done that, kindly keep your opinions and sour attitude to yourself. Noone asked you to comment on my site, you were to go to my review site and leave a message, not go on about my personal site.
Maybe instead of writing a whole blog about someone you have problems with, take the high road, you are of the age now that you should know how to do that, or am I mistaken.
Vera: are you regularly in the habit of always leaving unrelated comments to someone’s entry? Your visitors might appreciate it, I don’t. You had my e-mail address, so it would have been polite to use that.
As for the rest, I couldn’t even read what was said in the Guestbook page, let alone notice the link. I spent over 5 minutes trying to decipher what was being said in the top comment.
I don’t care about being so damn nice all of the time in real life. I’m sick of crazy people who want to be overly dramatic for no real reason other than they have nothing else to do with their free time.
I have noticed this on several sites too. I always find it amusing to read because even as they say they don’t care their tune is so indignant.
I think one day it would be amusing on April Fools or Halloween to change my site into some nasty glitter/flashing site and ask HOW DO YOU LIKE MY NEW LAYOUT??! HAWT OR NAWT?
Vera… not that I care, or anything.
D: I admit it! *Hangs head* I think I’m guilty of that a few times…I’m not sure about proclaiming the whole, “I DON’T CARE!!” bit, but definitely the description thereof…If that made sense. o_o Anyway, very well done, Vera!
I think most if not all people are guilty of that, saying they don’t care but still have to rant about it. Not just online but also offline.
Because saying ‘I dun care’ automatically should shut up ALL opposition, because they’re only saying it because they’re PETTY, and JEALOUS that your site is so awesome. And of course they have no life, so you should probably not engage in debate, because it’s POINTLESS, right? And that should be pointed out, along with the fact that they need a new hobby besides criticising websites like a sad basement dweller.
Interwebs logic! That was such an excellent dissection of it!
Vera: if only it were that easy to shut everyone up
This comment is completely unrelated, but you should probably check the “members” page of the Jem fanlisting. The table cells have illegible text.
Vera: sorry fixed. The layout is not yet 100% finished, which is why I missed that. Thanks for the heads up
I am procrastinating from my book report, and I started reading some of the content on her site. Literally, my head started spinning. I got so pissed off by the absolute lack of common sense and direction in all of her writing. She makes no point, at all, whatsoever. And if she does make a point, it has nothing to do with anything she said prior.
I thought most people grew out of sites like that by the time they were 14. Talk about false generalization.
Vera: I’m sorry but what site are you referring to? Ashley’s?
Oops. Yeah :x
Ps, that paper? Still not done. Hah.
Vera: *points* go finish your paper!
I completely despise people who pretend that they don’t care but actually do. Honesty is much more appreciated to readers than some thinly veiled attempt at coming off as “easy-going.” People who hate criticisms of their site shouldn’t run a site on the PUBLIC internet where anyone can access it.
