It’s called EVOLUTION

Personally I have an insanely low tolerance to physical pain. Therefore, I generally do anything I can to avoid it1. As luck would have it, these past weeks have not exactly been conductive to my peace of mind.

First I get some serious cramps from my period. Dry-heaving can be so much fun at work… Next, I (once again) forget that my arm is much too sensitive to stand any type of draught, so my right arm starts hurting like hell. But then I suddenly decide that I’m going to evolve and jump headfirst into… things. Either that, or my arm pain made me delirious.

Me: It hurts, therefore I demand sympathy.
Dad: It’s your own fault, really. I told you to take care.
Me: I still demand sympathy. X(
Dad: Fine… I know it hurts a lot.
Me:… and you know the best part? I’m having a tooth extraction tomorrow.
Dad: You can always call the doctor and tell her you can’t make it.
Me: But the bad tooth is on the other side.
Dad: I see. This is like the part where the doctor tells you to eat on the other side. So you cross the street and eat there.
Me: EXACTLY!

How do you react to pain?
_________
1 … such as grabbing onto the door, when I’m being forcefully dragged to the dentist.

    I suck it up.

    (Or man up)

    Vera: whoa! Super Jenny! :)

Poor you, seems like pain is following you everywhere you go.

Me… I’m a walking lump of complains. When something hurts, I complain until everyone is as annoyed as I am in pain. Life’s unfair

Vera: well not really… just these last few weeks. Yep, that’s exactly my policy, if I’m in pain, everyone should experience discomfort. :P

I cringe and twitch a lot, but I don’t like to tell people I’m in pain unless I want someone to get me chocolate or something. Or unless it’s super-serious and I have to go to the doctor, or get drugged up on Advil or something.

    Psst, “peace of mind”.

Vera: oh I tell my dad. He’s likely to get me… stuff. Whoops sorry, fixed. :star:

When it comes to tolerating pain - I grumble and whine a lot, and I slink into VERY bad moods.

I’ve never been good at it, and never will!

Vera: well you know… as long as all that grumbling helps. :P I like getting sympathy, so heh. ;)

Even if I am in deep pain, I usually don’t tell others until it becomes absolutely unbearable. :|

Vera: if it’s about teeth, I generally do the same. I hate the reproaches :(

Yell at somebody (that somebody usually comes up to my dog). It’s always make me feel better. :)

Vera: aww… and that’s saying a lot considering I’m generally quite insensitive. :P

I don’t complain too much when I’m in pain…if I do, whoever I tell(Jeff), will always have something more painful than I do. So any thought of me resting to ease the pain, is vanished because he needs the rest so much more than I do. X(

Yikes! A tooth extraction!! This is exactly why I have not been to the dentist in 3 years..I have a bad tooth. I suppose I would have been better off not skipping out on my appointment, because now the tooth is breaking, it’s nearly half gone now

I feel your pain. If I lived closer, I would bring you some chicken noodle soup..wouldn’t take the pain away, but it might make you feel better =]

Vera: oh thanks, but I feel fine now :)

The dentist scares the crap out of me! Just the drill makes my hair stand up! I don’t envy you…

Vera: finally a normal person. It’s not natural to like the dentist. XD

I had surgery recently, and I now know: PAIN IS TERRIBLE. I am sorry you were in pain :( It is HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. (bad experiance)

Vera: oh, I’m so sorry. Didn’t they use anesthetics? :hmm:

I don’t like to show I am in pain. Inside I am cringing and silently screaming. But in front of people, I put on a brave face. Even in front of my family, I put on my brave face, but that is mostly because I just don’t want to the millions of, “Are you okay?” questions.

Vera: hah, I’m veritably waiting for them. Then I can unload every single annoyance on the unsuspecting ‘victim’ XP

I’m the total opposite. I have a high threshold for pain and will often ignore things until they become unbearable. As such I’ve never had major problems with my dentist :teeth: Hope it all went ok!

Vera: oh I generally bear a lot when it comes to teeth… up till I’m screaming at the mere thought of dentist
    XD

Normally, I have a high tolerance for pain. If I’m feeling particularly weak, though, I’ll just cry. -_-; It helps. ^^

I hope that your trip to the dentist wasn’t painful.

Vera: it was, but then she’s used to me whining. Though she was quite surprised when I screamed like a holler monkey. Anesthetic had not numbed quite everything. X(

  13. Crissy on Wed, June 4, 2008 at 2:08 pm

Yeah they used anesthetics… but when I woke up the pain was HORRIBLE… I was yelling so much

I wish I had a high threshold for pain.

Vera: I’m sorry. But then you survived, that certainly counts for something. Now you can go all ‘hah! I survived a pianful surgery’
    :P

I don’t like pain, but am pretty good when it comes to tolerating it. I have 3 tattoos, have had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled, had a root canal, have gotten regular Brazilian bikini waxings, have 5 ear piercings (3 of which I did myself), a belly button piercing, sprained almost every peripheral joint in my body, gotten knee surgery, and once I got a splinter in my big toe that was so big, I had to go to the hospital to get it extracted.

Yeah, I tolerate pain pretty well.

Vera: woooooooooow. I couldn’t do it.

I bitch and moan until everyone else is in as much pain as me. Misery loves company.

    Vera: *nodnodnodnodnod* XD

  16. Kelly on Fri, June 6, 2008 at 7:35 pm

I’ve never had a tooth pulled but I’m guessing it’ll hurt. But that’s what their drugs are for, yeah? *cough* I kid, I kid.

The worst pain I had was an ovarian cyst, I thought I was going to die. I couldn’t walk, I crawled across the floor and my mom actually thought I was faking being sick to get out of school. When she realized that I wasn’t, I got rushed to the ER, got doped up on morphine and then discovered I had two cysts the size of golf balls lol.

Vera: I did get two shots, but it still hurt a lot when the doctor kept pushing and pulling at things.
Oh, ovarian cysts sound really dreadful, I hope you’re fine now.
    :(

  17. CJ on Sat, June 14, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Hahaha, I either try to ignore it, whine to myself, cry if its real bad, drink tea to make me feel better. or if its really bad and i cant get my mind off it ill tell my mother and make her do something about it hahaha

  18. Rhiannon on Wed, June 18, 2008 at 4:47 am

Have you tried Naprogesic for period pain? Fully recommended! :boogie:

Vera: Never heard of it. For a while Metamizole worked all right, but then I somehow became immune to it. So I decided not to try any more meds, just keep my belly warm (help proper blood flow).

  19. Vicky on Sat, June 21, 2008 at 11:54 pm

I react in exactly the same way! Moan at people until I’ve received adequate sympathy. I think tooth pain is one of the worst though, because it just gets in the way of everything. Eating, drinking, talking, etc. all become painful activities. And you can’t even moan or cry, because that hurts too! X(

  20. Rainbow on Mon, June 23, 2008 at 4:54 pm

I suck with pain. I have 7 tattoos and still can’t believe I got thou them. lol I have really bad luck with hurting myself. It seems I can be walking and fall for no reason. Maybe some of us are great like that.
