Stupid User
Well hello there! No I’m not (yet) dead, just blundering my way through summer. One thing I never thought I’d experience, was enraging tech support. I am not a “stupid user” after all… or so I thought. Of course, I blame it all on a sun stroke.
The gist of it all, was the Internet not working. I didn’t even want to go online, but there was this nagging feeling that kept winding me up. It had to be fixed.
I call tech support, only to spend about 20 minutes getting into Network Neighborhood. The phone cord couldn’t physically reach the computer, so that was one rather strained conversation we had.1. Apparently everything was in perfect working order. Well… aside the fact that I couldn’t actually log on to the Internet.
The highlight of it all came, when I was asked to remove the Ethernet cable from the router and plug it directly into the computer. I spent a good 5 minutes staring blankly at the two wardrobes I’d have had to shift for said action. Then I remembered that dad had a laptop… :hehe: … where Firefox kept freezing. On the bright side, the tech support seemed to be an Internet Explorer fan. WAIT: did I actually say bright side?! :star:
Ironically enough, the guy ended up cutting the phone line2 at the end. Hm… that might have been intentional, for all I know…
Lesson learned: there’s a reason why getting a human assisted tech support takes around a minute. You’re supposed to keep refreshing your browser till the problem magically solves itself. :rolleye:
Note: This post has been spawned thanks to Jade’s demand of me starting to earn my place in her Opera Speed Dial page. Don’t you DARE remove me!!!!! XD
___________
1 The phone cord was not long enough, and carrying a desktop computer to the phone was really not worth the effort.
2 The phone is linked to the modem, so if you reset the latter… *makes cut throat move*

so this is why you’ve been MIA? :suspicious:
hope you got everything working properly…how many times did you have to refresh before the problem was solved? lol.
Vera: … you know very well why I was MIA. I think I ranted enough about that blasted… you know who. As for these weeks… I was tiiiiiiiiiiired

Whoa, several days without the internet?!? The horrors. (I can survive one day without it.
)
Oh, and based on personal experience – everything that involves tech support always ends up in yet another horror drama.
Vera: oh no no no! It was just two hours at most xD

Sometimes my internet goes down and then the next day, by the time we’ve called a computer technician, it’s magically fixed. Don’t ask me how. I just use it and hope it works again the next day. :hehe:
P.S. Cute smilies.

Vera: most of the time I just wait it out as well. I was just impatient, this time.
I’m glad you like them, all compliments go to Aneesah though.

Gosh, sometimes I believe tech support is about as hopeless as Internet Explorer is to the interwebz. *rolls eyes*
Vera: you know, at one point I did feel kind of bad for the guy since my Internet really didn’t work and he seemed to have no clue either.

I have never called tech support… and I’m hoping I would never need to.
But my internet connection has been really wonky for the past two days. I hope it resolves itself soon. LOL.
Vera: I generally don’t like calling them either… but when the problem doesn’t fix itself in 2 minutes I get impatient. XD

I used to have internet problems so often with my old company. Then I switched to a bigger company, and all was well. Until a week ago – the internet would not work. I called up, they did a bunch of stuff on their side and asked me to ping them over and over, and fixed it.
“Will this occur again? If so how can I fix it or is it on your side?”
“No no, this will never happen again, it’s okay. You can go on the internet now”
The internet stopped working again an hour after that. Lol.
Vera: well generally my tech support is all “restart your router/modem/PC”. Ironically enough when I did that before calling it never worked, but it did after I called them. It was so frustrating.
