Memoirs of an ex-Ignorant

Most people would probably deplore this type of living, but I’d rather be ignorant than stressed out about stupid details. The minute I turn to think about what-ifs, they miraculously DO happen. Add to that, the fact that I am unable to think of desirable hypothetical situations. End result: gaaaaaaaaaaaah! :suspicious:

One of the first things I appreciated at my (at the time) new work place, was the toilet. I’m not entirely sure why, but every time I visited a toilet in a public institution it was always disgusting. Broken mirror(s), disgusting smell of iodine, filth… not necessarily all at once, but each and every one of these was enough to make my … ugh.. experience rather unpleasant.

At my work place, the toilets are not large, actually I think they’re barely larger than the one I have at home. Nevertheless they’re always squeaky clean, smell of spring flagrant bathroom cleaner, rather than iodine, and the mirrors are all intact. XD

Most unfortunately, my bliss was broken by mom when she ventured to ask about my work place. Somehow, we started discussing the toilets, and how small they are. Bewildered, my mother asked:

And what if there’s two of you? What do you say to each other? Isn’t that awkward?

Ever since then, I’ve never again managed to enter the toilet without coming face to face with a coworker. And for all that I tried to gain back my previous ignorance, it was as if people wore this giant sign, saying:

I’ve just been to the toilet!

Caffeine deprivation starts to look more and more tempting, considering how unaware of my surroundings this makes me. Then again, considering I don’t actually drink coffee, this is more of a figure of speech. It does sound classier than make-believe-drunk-wannabe-act… probably.

Is there anything you’d prefer never to have known about?

    Hehehe, it’s all psychological. Once someone brings something to your attention - all the more you’re likely to notice it, which is why suddenly it seems as if it’s happening all the time.

    In response to your question - should I actually make a list of things I’d prefer never to have known about, it’d probably circle the entire world three times, so I’d better not start. :P

    LOL! I’ve always been aware of awkwardness in public restrooms. I try to avoid them at all costs!! However, when toting my 3 year old around, I can’t always avoid them. They smell so bad, and there’s always someone in a stall grunting and farting. :hmm:

    I can’t think of one right now… But I know I’ve felt that way before - wanting to remain ignorant about things that are either too disgusting or too disturbing to remember. ^_^;;

    I know what you mean! It’s extremely frustrating. So to answer your question, oh God yes.

    I know exactly what you mean! I remember insisting for my fourteen year old older sister to tell me how babies were made when I was five or six, and then regretting it. Sometimes, it is far better to be ignorant!

    Thank you, by the way, for your comments on my new layout. I have fixed the footer text and comment fields, but I think I’m still confused with your tabbed navigation suggestion.

    It IS really awkward coming across people when you go to public restrooms. Where I work, I have to do bathroom checks every now and then and I never know if I should greet customers when I see them coming out of the stalls or just not say anything. XD I try my best to stay away from coffee (at least when I’m at work) to avoid embarrassing restroom encounters. Haha
