More and more people seem to have started entering the Christmas-y mood around me. Which is really great… only it tends to put certain things so much into perspective.

You see, a chronic procrastinator like me prefers to know that stuff is far far ahead in the future, rather than be constantly occasionally reminded that there’s something I have to do.

Despite all that, I felt a sudden air of nostalgia when one of my coworkers airily mentioned

We should get a radio and listen to Christmas carols.

Obviously, having the constant need to act mature1, I managed to sport one heck of a grimace upon hearing this, which of course prompted the question:

Don’t you like Christmas?

I love it folks! And I get so bloody nostalgic and jittery around that time of the year, but STOP TAUNTING ME! Unless, by some miracle, Christmas has been moved to the next week2, stop acting all so excited. It’s positively perverse… and mean! :fist:

1 quit your coughing, kthanks
2 don’t you dare; I still have a Secret Santa gift to send. :suspicious:

I would be so bad at preparing/buying presents for people. I’m glad I don’t celebrate Christmas! I’ve sort of learned to tune out all the hype.

Vera: oh I love the hype when its time has come… i.e. 3 days before Christmas eve. Last year I spent half an hour picking out a necktie for my dad. XD

I have got most of the Christmas gifts, now the challenge of getting some things for the husband. I am quite looking forward to Christmas this year. :)

I have to hold this Christmas dinner for 40 kids and 30 adults. So I need to coordinate the food and also the caroling session…it’s not an easy task when the rest of your groupmates who are supposed to be helping you out is not really cooperating ><

Vera: whoa! That’s one heck of a responsibility. At least is this a duty that goes around (i.e. this year it’s me, but next year it’s someone else)?

I absolutely love Christmas. I start listening to Christmas music around the middle of November. Soon I’ll be putting up Christmas lights and my little fiber optic Tree. This is the best time of year!

Vera: I’d never get anything done, if I did that starting November. XD

I too love the the hype right before Christmas. It’s *fun*. But I agree, when they make such a big deal about it so early, I want to scream. There’s this one station which already plays christmas carols again…

    and again…

    and again…

    and again….

    AND AGAIN! >.<

    Holidays = :clap:

but like you said, taunting me about them so early isn’t good.

Well, Christmas is great, but I really (really really) think that it should not start in November, because it kinda loses it’s charm. The 1st december is the earlies date from which on I’m ready to talk about Christmas, but no preparations before the 15th from me. It’s so much more fun when you buy the gifts and write the cards only a week before. You get really into it and the whole atmosphere is great … wow, such a long comment. Sorry. :hehe:

I’ve just put up my decorations.
    :boogie:
It’s 2/3 weeks until Christmas, which is a good time to start the celebrations in my opinion! Any excuse, really…

I usually wait till the last minute to get gifts and even put up the lights, but surprisingly this year, I’ve already gotten all my Xmas gifts BEFORE the end of November! Funny you say that, but since last week they’ve been playing Christmas music here at my job’s office.

I think you need to drink some eggnog and get in the Christmas spirit dammit!

    hehe, kidding!

Haha. I bought my husband’s Christmas gift on Christmas Eve. And I’d been meaning to get it since mid-November. How’s that for procrastination? And kudos to you for being able to stand Christmas music. It makes my ears bleed.

Your website takes the longest time to load & I know it’s not my internet because I was browsing another site & the pages loaded perfectly fine.

First of all, I am not pissed that I got criticized, I know what the definition of a review is–I was upset that people seemed to focus more on the usage of celebrity images than actually giving me a review on the site. Lecturing me on copyright laws is not giving me a review. So the next time you leave a condescending comment on my blog, learn how to read.

Second, when people criticized the colors of my navigation links, I changed them so that they’d be easier to see & then someone else said it was too dark & I should tone it down. I stopped changing it & then someone else said that the white font is hard to see. How is white hard to see over a dark background? How can you not get frustrated when it seems that either you’re colorblind or everyone else is?

Third, I didn’t join Rev.iew.me to get compliments, I joined it to get criticism on what I can do to improve my site. I changed a lot of things that the reviewers told me to change so it’s not like I’m sitting here throwing a fit. I didn’t expect people to give me lectures instead of reviews. Like I said, I expected the worst but was caught off guard at the lecturing of the copyright laws.

Psst: here’s a secret, I never said people were obliged to like my site. Publicly disliking a site and reviewing a site are two different things. Reviewing/giving constructive criticism is not the same as saying you hate a site. If I wanted to join a site that allowed to publicly dislike a site, I’d join hate.my.site.

Vera: Sorry about the loading time. My host acts up from time to time.

You using the celebrity image is THEFT, and most of us are bothered by it. It’s a crime, punishable by law. Just because the photographer has not seen your site, it doesn’t mean he/she wouldn’t tell you to stop using the image he/she is making a living with. I’m sure you ask people to credit you when using your work. Nevertheless, you can’t seem to give the same respect to a photographer whose work you’re wrongly making use of.
You’re getting lectured because you’re committing a crime. Easy as that, use images that you have permission to do so and then people will stop lecturing you. Easy as that.

So… basically, if anyone’s dislike crosses the line which you’ve deemed acceptable, they’re not allowed to tell you so? That’s basically telling people to criticize you, but only following YOUR rules? That’s not criticism, that’s ass patting.

Incidentally, just because someone uses harsh words, it doesn’t mean they “hate your site”. Au contraire, I’m firmly convinced they’ll forget it as soon as they completed the review. Most rvm members are blunt, and that generally is the most efficient way to drive a point home.

By the way, subscribing to a review site doesn’t necessarily mean you have to agree with the reviewer. It’s YOUR site after all, stop blaming others for disliking it.
