Family Outings

My mom has always been the one to make us GO… places. Especially, if said places implied hiking. She does however seem to ignore “mildly” unpleasant things such as… miles upon miles of mud *shudders*
Mom: Oh come on! You need to break those shoes in!
Me: Ugh… why does it have to be done knee-deep in mud?
Mom: What would you have done if you had been in the mountains?
Me (wishing fervently for knee-deep snow): Ugh…
Mom: See? Not so bad!
Me: Yeah… those bags of trash look acceptably white… :rolleye:
Dad (holding the camera up): Stop right there!
Mom: Not with this scarf on my head!
Me: Don’t worry, he’ll be focusing on the trash bags behind you.![]()
Now admit it: aren’t we a nice bunch? XP
LOL. My mom always tries to get my family to go on outings together, too
Vera: maybe it’s a mom kind of thing, to do? :hmm:
My dad is always the one who wants to make us walk on Sunday
Luckily my mum thinks of that as a chore, and thinks she already have too much of those, so she never agrees
Vera: well sometimes it can be nice… only I don’t really like getting dirty/muddy
VERY nice bunch
Vera: knew you’d see it that way
Ahh, if my mom did that I would not be happy. I wouldn’t want to get my shoes dirty! Like you said, “breaking them in” doesn’t have to involve mud. I’m glad my parents feel they’re getting too old to go on physical outings… although if they’re not in muddy, disgusting places, I don’t mind sight seeing with them.
Vera: well… to be fair, most of the outing happened inside the car
It’s the other way round for me. Instead, I am trying to make my mum GO places. She has more inertia than … tectonic plates. :/
Vera: oh my mom can never be persuaded to go places with me… when the idea is mine. Most probably cause I tend to wnat to go to slightly fancy places
Don’t fret, years from now you’ll laugh about this….or continue to ponder why your mom decided to go hiking in the mud.
My mom had agoraphobia, so we never really went anywhere, or did much of anything. Aside camping with cousins once.
I just hope your new shoes managed to survive
Vera: it WAS a huge amount of mud… My shoes are fine, they’re mountaineering boots, so they’re good for such weather. It’s just that I really despise getting muddy.
Well, your mom is quite adventurous! I remember when I was younger, my mom was always dragging me to go shopping with her. And she could spend hours and hours inside the shopping mall and being young at that time, I was bored to death. However, when I wanted to go shopping nowadays, she would say she is too tired to follow me, which is probably true and make me realize that she has grown older
So cherish your mom’s company!
Vera: yikes! Shopping with mom takes eons, plus we can never agree on something we both like.
I love how you categorised this under ’survival’ XD Only just made it out in one piece, right? Can’t say I remember the last time I went for a walk with my family. My mum and brother are rather lazy, and at the mention of physical exercise they cringe. I did used to take walks with my co-workers. The trainers I used were so beaten by the end of the three – four months I was there that I had to throw them away. The lesson here is use wellies!
Vera: well I wasn’t totally certain I was still in one piece either… but turns out I was
It’s the opposite for me, I’m always trying to drag my mother out but she never wants to leave her house! I feel like such a nag some days ~_~
Also, hiii, I hadn’t been here in a while, and i have to say, those shopping bags in the header look like they have smiley faces.
Not sure if it’s intentional, but they’re cute!
Vera: hehe, well my mom only goes to certain places… to others she’ll just say “another time”. I’m glad you like the shopping bags
My dad’s usually the one who comes up with the craziest ideas on outings and my mom, on the other hand, is the one who usually says “naaah let’s just stay at home or go to the mall instead” :p
Hahahahaaaa! Reminds me of my parents forcing me to visit tons of these park boardwalks when I was a kid. X( Oh sure I’d enjoy them now as a mature, nature-loving adult…but as a”zomg toyz n’ ice cream” child I could care less what a “cypress stump” or a funny looking bird was….and by boardwalks I don’t mean the pretty piers by an ocean I mean these looooong built-with-wood paths through these parks in Florida where cypress trees grew…and cypress tress grow in SWAMPY AREAS with tons of water and weird animals!!! So you’re walking for HOURS (well it felt like hours) and looking at boring things!! BLAH!!!!!!!!!
Now I would probably like to go see those places, for a bit…but they didn’t leave a very happy impression on me back in the day…
Oh! I love hiking, although knee-deep mud is a little much. Also, I took a class in high school where we went on camping trips though the year, and during one, we had to hike nearly 4 miles with 60+ pound backpacks on. Through a fresh snowfall. Yeah, that was an experience.
Vera: man, why don’t we have fun classes like that here, in high school?
I do family outings. I like hiking too. But, mud? I hate mud. Luckily, my mom is outdoorsy in the, “I’ll go camping only if there’s a toilet, running water, the Internet, and a bed” kind of way.
It’s really great that you and your family do outings together. The last time we did our lasting was two years ago, I don’t get to see my family members much nowadays. I love hiking too but with mud until my knee length, err… I think I’ll have to pass that.
It sounds really fun, though!
I can’t imagine my family hiking. ¬_¬ XD
Mud’s the worse. But I only seem to encounter it when I’m wearing cute shoes…
Mud’s the worst. I seriously can’t stand “soaking” my feet in them. Imagine those ants and what nots inside.
