Review by Cherished Hope Reviews

The spell checking was useful, but she went over-board with the sections - many should have been part of the layout or content. Also, she's quite ignorant of accessibility issues, which invalidates most of her suggestion.

First Reaction 4/5

I really like the layout, but I thought the content area was too wide. I'll talk more about that later in the 'Layout' section of the review.
My first reaction is a good one and your site loaded really quickly. I also love the highlighters; I have this weird love for stationary (esp. highlighters, probably because they're so colouful), I don't know why though. My friend says it's because I like to draw, haha.

Layout 18/20

Your layout looks wonderful and I think the name of your layout (Notes to self) suits the layout really well. It's also creative which is really great.
But again, I think the content area is too wide. You could make it skinnier and align the layout to the center. But really, it would still look fine because it's compatible with 800x600, 1024x768, and 1820x1024.
Or if you want to keep the wideness of the content area, then I suggest re-sizing the image of the highlighters to make it bigger to 'balance' out the wideness.

Yes, I can see how this is a problem in larger resolutions. My default resolution is 800x600px, where this is not an issue.
The layout is centered, as a matter of fact. Maybe you were mislead by the lack of image on the right side of it.

In Internet Explorer, whenever you type an apostrophe a big gap comes after it.

WordPress can seriously piss me off.

I don't see anything wrong with your layout though. Well, if you're expecting some criticism, sorry!

Content and navigation 10/15

Self Description:

  • lazyness should be laziness.
  • entriely should be entirely.
  • fanficion is two words; so it should be fan fiction.
  • confortable should be comfortable.

For the Sake of Writing:

  • annonymous should be anonymous.

When In crisis:

  • actualy should be actually.
You know, I agree with you about those self-help books. My dad borrows them from the library but never reads them, and ends up returning them on the due date.
  • pidgeons should be pigeons. This spelling error happens a few times in this page.
  • ventillation should be ventilation. This spelling error happens a few times too.
  • oportunity should be opportunity.
  • inconcievable should be inconceivable.
  • occured should be occurred.
  • Sso should be So.
Haha, I find the conversation you had with your mom rather funny. After reading a couple pages, it is obvious to me that you are very good with words and literature.

WPRs and Their Use:

  • Do you need their services> should be Do you need their services?

First Impression:

I fully agree about the cluttered splash pages but I don't think 'moved' signs are annoying, unless they do lead visitors though 27254 pages.

I'm refering to 'moved' signes, from the reviewers' point of view.

  • lenghten should be lengthens.
  • somewebmasters should be some webmasters.
  • Vistors should be Visitors.
  • apropriate should be appropriate.
Don't open random links in new windows.

What kind of random links? Random links could mean links to random pages that doesn't have anything related to your site. Or is it another kind of 'random links'?

I'll re-phrase that, but I explained that only external links should be opened in new windows... if any. I'm refering to pages pertaining to the site of course.

Aesthetically Challenged:

  • spalsh should be splash.
Requirements: respect, no sticky paws, love for XYZ, etc. /

Hmm. I've always thought webmasters added those things just for fun.

Even if that were the case, it's still not a valid reason for a splash page's existence.

  • waring should be warning.
  • Stadards should be Standards.
Otherwise, they're just another way of irritating visitors.
Well, I wouldn't really say splash pages are 'just another way of irritating visitors'. From my experience, new webmasters/sites have them because they see their favourite sites having them. Go figure.

That doesn't make them any less irritating.

  • cusomise should be customize.
  • refering should be referring.
  • aslinks should be as links.

The Content:

  • refering should be referring.
  • currewntly should be currently.
  • immediatly should be immediately.
  • stereotipical should be stereotypical.
  • chage should be change.
If you wouldn't touch that layout with a ten-feet pole, WHY do you think a visitor will? The latter is likely even more critical about it than you are. If you wouldn't touch that layout with a ten-feet pole, WHY do you think a visitor will? The latter is likely even more critical about it than you are.
Well, the webmaster probably thinks it's 'cool' to not like what they make. I remember doing that a few years ago. ;)

Most of my questions are rhetorical. Regardless, it's not a good idea.

Feedback for Reviewers:

  • Mostwebmasters should be Most webmasters.
  • prefered should be preferred.
  • ennumerate should be enumerate.
  • embarass should be embarrass.
  • newcommers should be newcomers.
After looking at those pages, there's nothing wrong with your content, except the spelling mistakes. I hope I'm not what you call a 'sugar coater', but I have nothing negative to say. Oh well, back to work.

Apache: the Webserver

  • conection should be connection.
  • instalation should be installation.
  • untill should be until.

PHP 4.4.0 as the PHP parder

  • avalilable should be available.
Haha, I had fun reading your 'How to Get Rid of Writer's Block' article. It was funny =)

Linkware Layouts - Autumn

There's nothing wrong with the layout, but I have a question. The links at the top are brown but the last one is not. Is that just the style or is there a mistake? I'm thinking it's just the style.

The lighter color, is the highlighted (i.e. current) section.

Navigation

There's nothing wrong with the navigation. It's very convenient and your site is very easy to navigate through. I think the 'Upcoming pages' is very convenient to the visitors so they'll know what pages are coming up next.

Updating 10/10

You update very frequently. Nothing much to say here but good job. I update my blog about once every three weeks, haha.

Hotlinking/stolen content 15/15

Nothing is stolen ande everything is properly credited.

Broken images or links 12/15

Fanlistings

  • The Kimi Raikkonen fanlisting has moved.
  • The 'Can You Keep A Secret' button leads to a 404 Not Found page.
  • The 'Crookshanks' button leads to a 404 Not Found page. (I like the HP series too. It's awesome. I can't wait for the 7th book to come out)
  • The WP Fan button leads to this page.
  • The Paradise Kiss fanlisting has moved.
  • The Kaga Kara Mamoru button leads to this page.
Some links open in a new tab/window and some don't; you should fix that.

I really need to do a large revamp. I don't even like most of those things anymore =P

Interactive, fun activities, media 15/15

The articles, layouts etc. will be the 'interactive and media' stuff.
I really enjoyed reading your articles and I find some of them very funny. I learned some new things too from the tutorials too.

Bonus Points 0/5

Overall

You have a lovely site and again, the articles are great. ;) Your site makes me want to come back again and look for new articles to read. Your writing style is mature and funny at the same time; the articles and tutorials are original as well. Keep on doing a good job!
