Review from OmniVirtue
My very first e-drama... in the end both Kimmie and I got over it and are now on fairly good terms.
To My Patrons
I implore you, please do not use this particular review as a sample of my work. The webmaster of this site does not intend to use this review to help
better her website. After a small email correspondence, I reluctantly agreed to do a small review for her. Please view my other reviews as
samples.
I. First Impressions
Bam! A lady bug. The rest of your site is so green, that the bug just does not fit.
Approximate Time: Thirty seconds to a minute. The review explains why.
II. Content
Hmm... Seems you do the 2 minute glance to websites as well. And it seems you expect reviewers to do that. I actually laughed at loud a little here.
Nope, sorry not constructive criticism. You didn't read the article, only the title. Try again.
So, I normally do a full reading of every page, and make detailed comments, but since this review isn't a full one... Here's your content, to the point. These are the pages that I thought were bad, and why.
Self Description
Too Long (no one cares that much. Make it a paragraph)
The fact that everyone praises it, led me to the conclusion that a lot of visitors do care.
Forget Me Nots
Too Long (These are just so random, that people aren't going to bother)
Strangely enough the do, my visitors must be rather weird I guess.
WPRs & Their Use
Too Long (you don't need to define the words, get to the point)
Ever heard of multiple meanings?
A Deeper Look
Too Long (your site should explain itself)
It does actually. This is just for those, like yours truly, who like background information.
Site History
Too Long (Why do people have site history pages? Random visitors do not read them.)
That's just for me, you know: PERSONAL site.
Here's my point, and I'm going to make it here. Content should be short and sweet. Short enough that readers do not become bored. Sweet enough that it attracts their attention. You haven't learned this balance yet.
You got the 'sweet' bit right, well half of it. If it is 'sweet enough' they won't get bored.
III. Layout
Bring that bug into the site more. the mint green background is way too bright. It takes focus from the main part of your website. Make the background a dull orange to match the bug.
If you had read the about page, you'd know why. Alas, you're doomed to ignorance.
Separate your side bar from your content. The two of them mix together because they are the same font family, size and color. Remove the button links from your main page. Your site is YOUR site. Put them some where else, and have people clicking on your navigation links (if they can find them) rather than links out.
Hah! Constructive criticism! *waves banner* I'll take this into account.
IV. Navigation
I dislike links named something other than what they really are. No one wants to play a guessing game. I see that you provide an explanation below your main navigation links. I know enough people that won't watch movies with subtitles because they have to read too much.
Mhm: we've already established that you don't read.
Conclusion: Kimmie - 1.5, Vera - 8.5. I win =P .
