Review by Raving Bitch

The proverbial slap in the face. It woke me up, and made me re-organize my whole site. I warmly recommend this WPR site to anyone (right now reborn under the name of Truculent Reviews).

first impression 8/10

Everything loads fine, it loads quickly. But the iframe-boxes are poorly coloured because they are transparent frames and I use Mozilla, making them stand out too much.

I know, but lazyness prevailed. I guess next time I won't choose the easy way.

code 5/5

It's in an easy-to-find place and categorized very nicely. Thanks.

errors 8/10

A broken image or two. Get that fixed.

CSS 5/10

Your iframes aren't compatible with Mozilla. They are just grey blobs. And if it's meant to be this way, sorry, but it's ugly. I hate transparent frames. Your colour choise is prime, I like the different greys and blacks you incorporated into your layout.

What does the colour choice have to do with coding? Shouldn't you be discussing this in the layout section?

layout 10/30

All I see is a girl, a very poorly-cut girl. The grey block behind her is pretty, but that's the only special part about the layout. Her arms are very pixely, either you saved your images poorly or you chose a bad-quality one. Like I said, you poorly cut her out of her image. Try using feather set to 3 or 4 or just use a lowered-hardness eraser tool. It just bugs me when you can still see little white blobs here and there, and the sheer hardness of the girl standing out too much when she was meant to blend in with her background. You didnt add any effects to her, to maybe soften the pixels up, so it looks like a copy-and-paste job. You didnt make the girl your own. For some reason, the font strikes me as odd, I don't really like it with this layout. You could have tried a more scripty font.

While I agree about the image quality, I rather like the font. So, until further notice, I'll be keeping it.

content 10/20

A lot of your 'about me' stuff is very nice, but some of it is quite tasteless, and dare I say ... tacky? I love your quotes, but the quizzes/memes must go. I understand you like them and want to share them, but honestly, who wants to read them? They are things everyone's done at their neopets stage in life. But, supposing you must have the quizzes/memes there, couldnt you summarize it a bit? It's quite long-winded and with your small iframe... well, let's just say not a pretty picture. Your 'contact' page is really long for just a few strings of information. All you need to do is have the form, link to MSN messaging you, with a small blurb next to it in parenthesis saying that if youre on 'busy' you dont want to be bugged unless it's important. Also, your question box is HUGE on that page! Lower it down a few pixels, textareas can scroll!! I like your 'over the years' section, well-orginised and all that jazz. Anyways, I like how you orginised 'gifts/awards', 'reviews', and 'credits'. So kudos.

Will fix the contact page. You're right about the survey: I really like it, but it's starting to annoy ME too.

return factor 0/5

Sorry but your layout isn't striking, no content for the visitor to speak of, not much here but a shrine.

I really hoped to avoid this, but you're right. It's just rather difficult.

navigation 2/10

The way you orginised your links is confusing, not only because you have a billion different categories of links in your navigation box, but that some of the headers and links dont have anything to do with the page it's meant to go to. 'once upon a time..' for the about you page is fine, but what about a small description of where it leads to under it? Anyways, you could easily orginise all of the affiliate, outside influence, and remember me on a couple of pages. A 'site' page could include links to your links in out and exchanges along with affiliates. Also, you might want to orginise your 'joined' stuff onto a separate page as well, as the buttons are large in number.

bonus +2

Your orginisation in your pages are prime. I can't stress that enough. You are a goddess.

Didn't you just say it was bad?

comments

I hate how your orginised your links. I used to do it that way but got a slap in the face by a friend. Try to lower your links into one category, with a maximum of links-to-pages in one category. You could slap a LOT of your content's links into a site page, as most of your content is about your site and it's affiliates ect. You need to spend 10 minutes longer on your layouts and they will look a billion times better, I promise. Also, just a few pages for the visitor would be nice, but not necessary. Chances are you'll get a better return factor that way :)
